Elementary Schooled by TomPreston Elementary Schooled by TomPreston
Copyright 2012 Brent Black, Dan Roth, & Andrew Dobson
Read the latest Brentalfloss comic at the new website! [link]

One of the first of several brentalfloss strips to appear on icanhascheezburger. This was made before "Elementary" officially aired.

Disclaimer: I've never seen Elementary, so I have no opinions of the show one way or the other.

I'll always watch BBC Sherlock over Elementary because it's just done so much better, BBC Holmes is much more interesting and likable and they keep him Asexual like he was in the books they don't  make him Straight like the Elementary Holmes to come off as a 'normal' man (that just really rubs me the wrong way in this series, same way i'd be kinda pissed if they made Dumbledore undoubtedly straight in some adaptation of Harry Potter ) and as for  Watson i don't mind a female Watson but she's not written really interesting ether and maybe they could get away with two uninteresting leads if the stories were interesting enough but there not.Elementary is just bland to me  and I've never really bean able to enjoy it but i'm happy it exists for the people who do enjoy it  =)

The thing I don't like about Elementary is that it feels really gimmicky.
"Hey! Let's have a girl Watson! That hasn't been done before!"

Both Sherlock and Elementary are shallow and illthought through reimaginings of the books, (I'd go so far as to say, "uncreative rape"). The opnly decent source material loyal adaptions are unabridged audiobooks and Granada's television adaption.

Possible fourth panel: Brett's Sherlock Holmes either beating them up and calling Lestrade to take the two fakes away.

I don't like Elementary, because I think Watson should always be male. I don't care what anyone else says about my opinion, because it's mine. Watson and Holmes love each other, as friends(or if the fanfics are to be believed, as more).

I also don't like the portrayal of Holmes in Elementary. Besides, Cumberbatch is hot!

This is hilarious, by the way~

you know they made Watson a woman for the sole purpose of showing that you can have a male and female lead without having them fall in love, right?

Yeah, but still. The underlying subtext in the original novels kind of negates that. After all, Holmes and Watson(using Holmes' own methods of deduction) had more than just a friendship and working relationship. Just how they acted toward each other in Doyle's novel. I swear that Doyle is probably turning in his grave because of Elementary. :|

maybe, but then again one has to remember that somebody made Watson a robot at one point.

But Watson still identified as a male, even though he had no 'real' gender as a robot.
