Old School Zelda Coparison by TomPreston Old School Zelda Coparison by TomPreston
A comparison of the original and updated version of "Old School Zelda."

Aside from painting the whole thing over again, there are a number of small enhancements I made. I added texture to the ground to make it less bland, I brightened up the colors on Link to make him stand out, I added a blend behind Link to help clean up some of the lineart diarrhea, and finally I toned down the over-use of "overlay" and "color dodge" effects.

i think I like the older one better because it's bolder, but the other one looks great, too. I love the energy flying from the sword in the newer one.

So different colors?

I remember that stupid octopus thing (from Ocarina of Time, right?), and those ogres (I think) that would run you over when you tried to get to the Forest Temple. I did not like them in the slightest XD. But this is incredible art, and I really love your style!

I prefer the new one <'3 .. it focusses more on Link, and gives a better feel
but that's just my opinion

Very nicely done on both! There are many great aspects of each of the works, such as link being more prominent in the newer rendition, & the monsters showing a bit more detail, and being a tad easier to see in the older version.

I like the new version better. The old one was a bit of a mess, you didn't really know where to look. In the new one you know exactly where and I also like the light on the sword a lot better with the green and yellow mixed into it.

i kinda like the top better because the bottem one is sorta too much in it, like theres an overload of the light from the sword and i dont truely like the smoothing look of it, and link seems to be too bright. hes already the center and with the extra coloring he looks like he should be in a bright feild of flowers not in a dark cave ot tunnle like place surronded by monsters. but thats just my opinioin and its your art

I definitely like the newer version. The effect on the sword and light is a lot better.
But what I like most is how Link stands out, whereas in the original one, everthing seems too blended together. Because Link is such the focus, it makes them seem more the irrelevant monsters that you find in game.

Battle doesn't need bright colors. They just don't mix. The ground and sword effect look better though.

His blazing red hair is off putting the picture a little, the brown fit the image better
