This is a series I call “So You’re a Cartoonist?” which deals with all of the typical questions or remarks I receive whenever I tell people that I draw cartoons for a living.
I love going to comic cons, but there is one downside. I don’t want to miss any opportunity to talk to someone who approaches my booth, but at the same time I still want to be able to go to the bathroom, eat lunch, or just go exploring around the con for a bit. One con I went to had a guy who could watch your booth, but when I came back I found he had sold two of my most expensive books for the same price as my cheapest one. I was not a happy camper.
Comic cons are fun, but as an artist there, I tend to have little opportunity to venture out and see beyond the area directly in front of my 6 foot table.
EDIT: To all those suggesting I have a buddy with me to maintain the booth while I relieve myself, that's not always an option. Frequently I have to travel to other states and it's expensive enough trying to pay for myself let alone having someone else have to pay their way too. Many cons require you to pay for any additional person at your table and overall it's just a more pricey option I'd rather not do. Simple solution: Go before you get there and hope you can hold it...
EDIT: And to all of you suggesting I pee in a cup or bottle? Gross. Not only would I simply NOT do that because of how disgusting it is, often times at cons the tables themselves are open and customers can walk around them. Rarely am I ever up against a wall where no one would see, and the smell and sound would just... ugh.. you guys are sick... no! NO!
I must honestly say that this is genius. I absolutely love the way you express the facial features and especially the last one. Its actually accurate to many people. Although the expressions are still somewhat over exaggerated i think that it makes the comic all the better! And depending on how long the con is i recommend going to the bathroom BEFORE HAND. I've ran into similar problems when i'm at conventions.
I read all the comics you write. They're very funny~ Its the only web comic series i can actually laugh at. So with that said, please keep up the good work!
JUST don't think about peeing. Just don't. Try to do things to keep your mind off of it. When I was in High School, I NEVER went to the bathroom, just held it in. I had a good reason too. I didn't want to lose any important lessons or information that was in my classes, because of my autism (aspergers) I would have a hard time catching back up with the rest of the class if I didn't understand the subjects (like math *shudders*). When it was time for lunch that's when I took a bathroom break.
