SYAC - Bloody Symbols by TomPreston SYAC - Bloody Symbols by TomPreston

Some comic symbols can transcend cultures, while others are more unique. When making comics it’s best to make sure you know your audience and to use symbols they’ll be able to recognize and understand.

In Japan it’s believed that if you think about sexual things your blood will boil, causing a nosebleed. This is why male characters in Anime tend to gush blood at the sight of scantily clad females.

To Anime and Manga fans and Japanese people, the symbol of gushing blood will be immediately recognizable. But show bloody nosed characters to outsiders and they’ll be VERY confused, and maybe even a little disturbed.

(this has no relation to Anime/Manga, just so you know, but it does have something to do with spontaneous nosebleeds...)
One time, I was playing a game, and my nose started bleeding while I was laughing at something.. and blood splatters got all over me and my computer. -_-

Really? Wow! I knew that in Manga men tend to get nosebleeds when thinking or seeing sexual things, but i never knew why!

I love the chick's knowing grin. Good job! :-D

I probably would've thought the same thing, but I wouldn't have the guts to say it like she did. ^.^'

Now I understand the "nosebleed" thing in comments or in anime...
Doesn't really make much sense, but now I understand it!

This happened me right before I got onstage at my singing recital. It was really sad and I still did it.
