Just like how YouTube made superstars out of previously unknowns, I think getting noticed for your art is easier than ever these days. Post your comics somewhere online, advertise them through social media outlets, and before long you’ll have a following. 10 years ago I wouldn’t have said it was possible, but now? The times have changed.
I realize that this is kinda a bold claim, and I don’t know if any of my contemporaries would agree with me, but I say if you can make a decent impact and dredge up a good fanbase, why not call yourself part of the industry at that point? Comics are hotter than ever right now and you don’t need to be working at the two major companies to get noticed anymore.PS: When I refer to “comics industry” I am referring to America’s two biggest comic companies DC and Marvel, because I’m American and this is shorthand.
