I learn best when I'm listening while I draw. I always struggled in school because teachers saw this as "goofing off."

We wanna know stuff, and sometimes schools refuse to do that.

Same here! I can't concentrate if I'm not doodling. It keeps my hands busy, so I can listen without fidgeting. Jeez, 18 and I still fidget in class.

Anyway, doodling promotes learning (if you can draw without thinking too hard) because it keeps your hands busy, keeps your brain moving, and information that's said by the teacher gets processed and absorbed easier.

I'm not scolded anymore though; mostly because I keep my grades up, but that's because when there's a lecture on something like the battle of Waterloo in history, my notes will have little napoleons marching around the page building his notebook paper empire. But NONETHELESS! I remembered the little napoleons for the test. :3

SO LET THEM DOODLE!!!

I was always the same way in school. I listened much better while drawing. Eventually my teachers just got used to it.

I actually had a huge battle with my highschool science teacher about this, so I know your frustration :P I used to draw illustrations of the stuff he covered in my homework and he told me that I couldn't do that because it looked messy (I agree they weren't exactly Da Vinci paintings, but they weren't random doodles either). He made me re-co all my homework of the last couple of weeks. I left open blanks spaces in the text and put a transparent overlay over every page, featuring the drawings, filling in the blank spaces. When I showed him my homework, he got angry about the drawings. I just flipped the overlay and they were gone. His face was priceless.

I draw more at school than I do at home. Trees hate me now. I have to refill my binder with printer paper every other day.
