Over on SYAC and Tumblr I wrote this as the description:
Memes are fun and all... but they're also kinda starting to wear out their welcome. Don't get me wrong, I think they're funny too... but if you're making entire comics using only popular stock expressions/images like these just to be "funny," you're not exactly developing your artistic skills.
Again, nothing against memes. They're cool... I just think wannabe comic artists could afford to try and spend more time learning how to draw facial expressions and communicating emotions without resorting to copy/pastes like these to tell a story/joke.
And judging by the responses I got from people (mostly from tumblr) I need to clarify...
I’m well aware that rage comics (and the rage comics builder) are designed around the idea that people who can’t draw can still make comics. There is nothing inherently wrong with that. I am also not suggesting that there are artists who only draw rage comics like this (though there probably are).
But I am saying that inserting an established meme into your comic is a cheap cop-out to actually conveying a genuine and meaningful expression. Unless it’s the intended purpose of your comic, do your best to not use stock icons, symbols, and expressions.
And before any of you point this out, this is an issue that we ALL must work on, including myself.
I agree, rage comics are funny and mostly just for lols, but if you're a comic artist and or trying to be one, you should orbably rerain from using them in your comics, at least thats how i see it
