“If you hear a voice within you say, ‘you cannot paint,’ then by all means paint, and that voice will be silenced.”
~Vincent Van Gogh

Easier said than done, Vince...

PS: This is not a reflection of my current state of mind, though I won't deny at one point I have felt like this. I think this is something a lot of artists struggle with and I felt it necessary to visualize it. We all have critics, but the worst one is ourselves. Our brains have a brilliant way of heightening every fault and flaw we have, to the point that it can prevent us from even picking up a pencil. I really hope that more artists out there don't suffer from this, but if you do I want you to know that you're not alone. I believe that continuous work is the best antidote, so with that in mind: Don't let the dark thoughts get you down. Never give up. And keep doing what you love!

This is me when I'm drawing.
It's why I prefer writing, because I can get every detail in and my mind likes to think (and possibly know) that my stories are amazing.
I've never gotten any voices on my stories, however
Just a favorite/follow/etc and they run away...

I was expecting there to be a voice saying "You're just a bear!"...I can relate to this though

i Wouldn't call myself an artist, but if i have/want to do something a lot of people will see, at first i end up like in this comic, but then i somehow manage to turn all the sadness into anger and then into determination to do it.

I think every artist hits this point in their life, myself included; It's only when I decided that my life could not revolve around art (ie, make it my job) that I could "get out of bed." It'll always be my little happy place though.

My school life in a nutshell.
Though, the voice was amplified by every other student.

I know that feeling too well. I'm my own worst critic.

To all those out there that feel terrible because someone else insulted your art, said you were terrible, said you were bad, said you weren't good enough... SCREW THOSE GUYS! They're either jealous you can do BETTER than them, or simply trying to drain you of your creativity to make you worse than they are.
We are whom we are, and who you are is very special to you, and everyone supporting you! :)

I'm actually still recovering from this sort of thing.. One small comment from someone set me off, and I felt like crap for a while..
But I'm getting back into drawing now.  I'll improve so I don't feel this way again.  I don't want to lose my will to draw again.
