SYAC - Perfect Timing by TomPreston SYAC - Perfect Timing by TomPreston

Read the latest “So, You’re A Cartoonist” at the following syacartoonist.com/

Short answer: The Thief and the Cobbler was started first, but when production started to take too long to complete the studio spliced some half-assed Aladdin rip-off animation into it.

Long answer: Go wiki it, I don't give a shit.

The Workprint version of The Thief and the Cobbler isn't an Aladdin ripoff at all and was made YEARS before Aladdin.

Get your facts straight, Cattyn.

The Thief and the Cobbler was started before Aladdin. But it took so long to finish that the studio got upset and fired the animator, and decided to finish the animation themselves by ripping off Aladdin and releasing it that way. So technically it both is AND isn't a rip-off. The original intent was not a rip-off. The half-assed completion version by the studio tired of waiting was.

This joke has no setup.

Incorrect. See that bit of text at the top? That is the setup. It makes it so that when you read the comic you understand that it's not based on reality.

I don't mind if you don't like the comic or find it distasteful or whatever, but please don't be ignorant about how it's constructed as a means to hate it.

the setup is clumsy and lacks in humour.

That doesn't make sense. The setup doesn't contain the joke, because it's setting UP the joke. The humor is in how the setup matches the resolution. Not in how funnily worded the setup is.

Now, it is possible to claim that it is clumsy, sure... but if you're gonna go that route at least explain to me how you would've set it up better so that it wasn't as clumsy instead of just saying it is.

If you're gonna critique, at least be helpful about it.

i feel that even if i took the time to offer a well thought out critique you would still refute it to be honest.

Then either write a critique or don't write anything at all. No need to write jerky vague comments if you're not gonna explain yourself. They help no one.
