Things I like by TomPreston Things I like by TomPreston
The world is not black and white, yet despite this people feel the need to bash and flame anything which doesn’t conform into the narrow classifications of “good” and “bad.” There are also things which are awesome which no one seems to ever give a crap about. This comic is all about the stuff I enjoy, that other people seem to hate or don't give a crap about.

Below are more detailed reasonings of why I like these things. Not meant as a rant, just a more detailed explanation than my comic provides if you care to read them.

A fantastic musical about the signing of the Declaration of Independence. I gained so much more respect for our founding fathers than I ever had before once I fully understood what an enormously difficult challenge it was to even PASS the resolution in the congress. And besides, it’s a great musical with lots of humor and a joy to watch!

Metroid: Other M
I’ve heard so many people complaining about this game like it’s “ruined” the Metroid series or whatever. I’m sick of hearing it. This game ROCKS! If it’s too linear for you or you think Samus talks too much about her emotions, then go play Fusion and get back to me.

Star Trek: Voyager
I have found very few people who actually enjoyed this series. I was never that fond of DS9 or Enterprise and Voyager seemed to have more in common with TNG in my opinion. Plus Harry Kim and Holographic Doctor FTW!

Lady in the Water
It’s trendy to hate on Mr. M. Night these days. His movies seem to like to defy classification yet are always marketed as horror films. Lady in the Water is a fairy tale, and I loved how the events brought the small community of strange people together. Plus it has probably one of THE BEST DEATH SCENES EVER!!!

Nero Wolfe
He’s a fat, lazy, and eccentric detective. How eccentric? He won’t leave the comfort of his home, even to solve a crime. He can’t be reached between certain hours due to his need to work on his Orchids, meaning that if you want to murder someone make sure it conforms to his schedule. He eats nothing but gourmet food. He also needs his assistant Archie Goodwin to do all the leg work and gather all the facts for him so he can “deduce” things.

The Legend of Zelda: TV Show
I love this show. It was very influential to me growing up. No one likes it now because apparently it’s nothing like “Zelda” since the series evolved beyond ONE GAME and because of youtube videos stringing Link’s annoying catch-phrase into one long video. It’s good wholesome campy fun set in the Zelda universe.

Jeremy Brett
He’s most famous for playing Sherlock Holmes on PBS. He got so into the mind of the character that he eventually died trying to BE the character of Holmes. His mental state deteriorated over the course of almost 20 years trying to play Sherlock Holmes and he’s noted as being one of the best and accurate performances of Holmes ever recorded on film. Now THAT is dedication!

Dude, I LOVE John adams! He's actualy my faveorite president!
When I first saw this...comic... I thought it couldn't get any worse. Then I read the description. You honestly have no idea what storytelling is, do you? M:OM is a shitpile, and dismissively arguing that Fusion had (quite few, in comparison) lines of dialogue means that it's fine in M:OM is absolutely flawed. The presence of dialogue in an entirely different game does not automatically prove that the dialogue in M:OM isn't shit. It's shit, and that's a god-damned fact. It completely reverses the character built up by multiple games into a sniveling daddy's girl. And no, that's not just because she "displays emotion", it's because she lets her emotions completely override her self-control, even risking lives in the process. And REGARDLESS that the prime games are no longer canon, Ridley should not have caused such an emotional breakdown, especially with lives other than her own on the line, because she has fought him beforehand. The whole PTSD breakdown is completely illogical, and so is Adam's authorization shit. Remember the lava section, where Samus couldn't use the varia upgrade she had completely available and usable, but didn't get to use it until AFTER going through the ENTIRE section and defeating the boss? I god-damn dare you to defend that logic skip. The whole "deleter" bullshit? why on earth would the federation send Adam's team in if they didn't want their secrets discovered? Just say "hey Adam, sorry buddy, you can't go to the bottle ship" and he wouldn't go. Does he look like one to question orders? he's not. And lastly, why the flying fuck would the federation be after samus, and she works for them AGAIN in fusion, after all they've done to her? (fun fact, Fusion is the last in the timeline, and all events of the prior games are weighed into it) Your opinion is shit, and no, you cannot back it up.

I'm with you on Jeremy Brett and 1776, but everything else is kind of meh for me.
People don't like the Legend of Zelda TV show!?
Well, EXCUSE ME princess. (had to be done)
One of the reasons a lot of people hated Other M was because of what emotions Samus showed. It was all fear and worry over a creature that she has fought several times before. It's actually quite degrading and disappointing as everyone enjoyed the powerful bounty hunter who could blast her way through dangerous ruins of planets filled with horrible monsters. That and the fact that she's basically a grunt taking orders from a pretty generic space military having to have her weapons approved makes it all the worse.

For someone who complains that video games and the gaming community are sexist, you're defending the game that's time and time again been labeled as sexist.
I gotta agree, unfortunately; I'm all for Samus showing emotions and foibles, but they really had no idea how to present them and what emotions she would express. They REALLY cocked that up, IMO.
