This generation of video game consoles has been completely off my radar. Even my fanboy lust of all things Nintendo can’t make me save up enough money to buy a Wii-U. I don’t know if it’s because I’ve become jaded over the last console war, or if I’m just moving on away from consoles into other avenues of gaming (ie: PC gaming), but something about this generation just defies interest for me.
Some of it is just head inducing nonsense like this: www.theverge.com/2013/11/8/508… The Xbox One requiring a day one patch TO PLAY VIDEO GAMES. I mean, when the Ps3 launched it required a day one patch to play Blu-Ray movies, that’s not so bad though since you could still play games. But the Xbox One comes out and you literally can’t do anything with it if you don’t have an internet connection. For how much you paid for that device that’s pretty shitty.
And all the consoles are doing crap like this. The Wii U needed a day one patch, the PS4 has a day one patch. The lack of consumer friendly services and hoops they make you jump through to do what 20 years ago was a simple plug and play setup is mind boggling. Console gaming has regressed into an anachronistic lumbering dinosaur. Yes the games are still awesome. Yes the graphics are lovely. Yes everything is HD and amazing and what not... but it’s such a pain in the ass to set everything up I don’t think the high price is worth it anymore. The economy is the worse it’s been in ages and spending that much money on a box that won’t work right away and requires games that cost upwards of $60 apiece is just.... not worth it IMO. $60 can go a long way towards other more important things in my life right now, why on earth would I spend it on video games? Especially when I can play FREE games online, or cheap awesome indi games, or download apps on the go.
I guess I’m just bored with the console wars and everything. It’s the same boredom that made me lose interest during the original Xbox and Playstation 2 era. The boredom that was alleviated by the arrival of the very unique Wii and the promise of change that might spread through the console market... only to not happen and now we’re just right back where we were almost 15 years ago.
I honestly haven’t really played many Nintendo games after Skyward Sword. I just lost interest halfway through playing it. I’ve never finished it and I have no desire to go back. There are a lot of games coming out that seem interesting to me, but none that I would spend my hard earned cash on. Even the release of A Link to the Past sequel just can’t muster enough energy to be enthusiastic about anymore.
I dunno guys... I think I’m done with console gaming for the time being. Unless I get super rich suddenly and have the cash to waste on this crap, I just can’t picture myself buying ANY of the consoles anymore.
Besides, Skyrim is fulfilling all my attention at the moment. I can literally play that game for MONTHS on end without getting bored.
- Listening to: Paarthurnax
- Reading: The book of Mara
- Watching: My housecarl sleep
- Playing: Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim
- Eating: Cheese Wheels
- Drinking: Mead
So if you don't make that back and then double it you will NEVER get anywhere.
That's pretty much the short version of why console gaming is crap now.
LYDIA FANFICTIONS, FIRE!
Fuck, I can't even believe it's already been two years.
Honestly, all I need is the 3ds! It has great games like Phoenix Wright, LoZ, acnl, Pokémon etc. In Pokémon alone you can spend hours breeding perfect Pokémon & building endless combinations of teams
Sorry for typos, I'm using my phone u.u
I also have games on the PS3 I want to finish. But apart from that its the 3ds for me. Not buying any new console for a long time. If anything I can also just play on a pc...
Pokémon games are awesome. ...every once in a while.
But trying to keep track of all of the Pokémon now is like counting grains of sand on a beach.
I meant for new people.
Yeah, I don't know all their mames but I know what all of them look like.
What does tbh mean?
tbh = to be honest
IMO, I am quite disappointed with the next gen consoles right now. There just aren't any worthwhile games on the Xbox One that aren't also (or soon will be) available on PC and the ONLY game that makes me want to buy a PlayStation 4 right now is Kingdom Hearts III (which has only just RECENTLY started development).
The Wii U has a FEW exclusives that interest me, but the vast majority of them won't be out for at least another year. :/
Consoles have basically become shitty PCs. They're trying too hard to do everything but the thing that they really should be doing, which is a simple easy set up to play games. It's like when smart phones got to the point of trying to do everything but be an actual phone.
I was done with console gaming after the Wii. Which I liked. I had a lot of fun with friends and family with that thing, but it was a system that did not have any staying power, party due to the fact it was trying to do something new and no one wanted to support it.
I agree with Darrell-T, it feels like for gamming, the PC is becoming a better choice just for the fact that you have more opinions.
I donno about Valve's Steam Machine thing, though. I would hope that it doesn't end up basically dragging PC gaming into the same mess that consoles have become, but we'll just have to wait and see.
That's my feelings about the latest consoles in a nutshell.
Most of my console crazy friends are totally getting hyped up about the PS4 and xbox one but since I read all those... uh... things about the xbox (and not being very fond of xbox to begin with) I just.. don't want any of the new consoles. They're way too expensive and the game are not looking any different either. It's nothing to strive for in my opinion.
And for the record: I've nothing against consoles, this is not a "Haha, console gamers are losers, PC FTW!" post. They're just not something I choose to spend money on.
As for the DOPs, there aren't surprising. PS4 and Xbox One are running off of new OS builds instead of the ones that they've been using for the past eight years, and considering that system coding -- which is a BITCH, btw -- is dependent on human input that also means human error, so yeah there's going to be quite a few code mix-ups and system glitches. There was plenty of that during the launches a decade ago, in case any of us had forgotten. You know, with the PS3s melting games and the 360s starting on fire and exploding.
I never buy a console or handheld on launch simply because they lack both the titles and in a few months if your willing to wait they all take a price cut.
All in all unless there are a few exclusives to a console that you simply must have; and I'm talking about the ones that won't ever come out for PC. (Kingdom Hearts) then there is absolutely no reason to buy a console.
