Year of Luigi
Nintendo announced recently that Luigi will be getting quite a bit of due attention this year, declaring 2013 to be "the year of Luigi." First he'll be staring in the Luigi's Mansion sequel for the 3DS, then he will be a big component of the next Mario and Luigi RPG on the 3DS. In the RPG game, Mario will enter Luigi's dreams where Luigi can be as awesome, if not better than, his overshadowing brother. Poking and prodding Luigi's face on the touch screen will also alter the dream world, allowing Mario to proceed through obstacles. And if that wasn't enough, there is a new DLC package planned for New Super Mario Bros U which basically adds an entire game's worth of new levels exclusively to be played by Luigi. Pretty solid stuff, Nintendo. Now say that 2014 is the year of the Peach!

Slavery Abolished!
Mississippi has finally ratified their 13th amendment, a motion to abolish slavery written back in 1865. The discovery that the amendment hadn't been passed came about when 2 academics decided to look into the status of the amendment after watching Stephen Spielberg's Lincoln. When it was discovered that the amendment had never been ratified, they contacted Mississippi's secretary of state, who arranged the passage of the bill on Feb 7th. Better late than never, right Mississippi?

Equestria Daily
My picture of Flutteryshy as a Crystal Kingdom Knight was featured on Equestria Daily yesterday. Thanks to whomever submitted it there, I was quite surprised to hear it was featured at all.

Adventure Time Progress Movie!
Sorry it took so long to complete, but here you go! You can see the progress of the Adventure Time illustration from start to finish now. Yay! Obviously to not bore anyone to death with the 8+ hours of drawing that I livestreamed, I flipped the video upside down (to be right side up for the viewer), sped it up, adjusted the clarity, and edited it much much shorter so you at least get an idea of what it was like. If you're masochistic enough to want to watch the full unaltered 8 hours you can do so on my Ustream account here: www.ustream.tv/channel/andy-s-…

In the meantime, enjoy the edited for time and entertainment youtube video!

It’s nice to finally see Luigi getting some love. Hopefully, he will be the main star of more games in the future. It’s not fair that he’s mostly used as a spin-off character or that he gets stuck playing second banana to Mario .It would also be cool to see a game featuring the Wicked Bros. or Daisy even if that very unlikely to happen.

Wow…took ya long enough Mississippi XD

Congrats on the Fluttershy feature and cool video :D

All good news and laughs. If only all news worked out like this. (And why I dislike getting into politics.) Thanks a bunch.

"The Year of Luigi" has a nice ring to it. :D

Man, I'd love to see 2014 be the Year of Wario. We need a true Wario Land sequel. "Shake It!" doesn't count.

Man, that's... news. I really don't have much to say about that...

WOOP WOOP, PONIES. THAT'S WHAT I CAME TO THIS JOURNAL FOR. (I believe this humor tactic is called "beating a dead horse that nobody knew existed in the first place.")

Eight hour video at midnight? Bring it on. Also, fetch me an extra pair of eyes. I'm gonna go all 682 on this one.

If 2014 was the year of Princess Peach then we would end up seeing a Super Princess Peach 2.... I liked the first game but to truly be a sequel it would have to expand on the first game, and how would it do that? Enhanced Versions of the emotions stacked on to the originals? If that was the case I'd be scared to see Princess Peach Anger X2.

In illustrator I believe it's called the blob brush. It basically acts like a paintbrush but converts your lines into vectors, making them much smoother. If you have a wacom tablet it will also pick up pressure and give you really nice line weight.

The slavery-issue reminds me of something similar that happened in Paris: There still existed a law that forbid women to wear trousers in public, only being discovered some months ago and being erased.
Not as heavy as just forgetting a law about slavery, but still also kind of....really strange.

I wish they made a real sequel to Mario RPG with Luigi on it D: I mean... not a stupid Paper Mario... but a real sequel to that SNES RPG (with Mallow, Geno, etc). That would be awesome.

Finally some love for Luigi! It was overdue.

Argh, the patience put into the Adventure Tine piece. I really have a few things to learn there. If you can do that gigantic work, then I should be able to make something like 1/5 of it.

It's about time! (For all of those actually)

I mean, Luigi is my favorite Nintendo character of all time, and it sucked that he never had a huge effect on the Mario franchise!

Also- Good riddance, slavery! c:<

And Awwwww yyyyyeeesssss- Adventure Time movie~

Pfff. Mississippi. Not like it mattered, since the US Constitution has already abolished slavery. A nice gesture, I guess?

But the amendment is the very part of constitution that abolished slavery, right? So doesn't it not being ratified by a state means it was not abolished in said state?

I'm genuinely interested, I'm not from US and don't know its laws.

:iconmajicfrog:

In the US, 3/4 of all states must ratify an amendment for it to pass. Three-quarters of the states ratified the 13th Amendment long ago in 1865, abolishing slavery. Mississippi held out, but because Mississippi is one of the United States, all of the national Constitution still applies to it, regardless of whether or not its government ratified the amendment. As such slavery has still been very much illegal since 1865, even in Mississippi, which never agreed to illegalizing it.
