I just got Minecraft and holy hell is it addictive. I've played around with the iPhone app before (building stuff with infinite blocks with no enemies to fear), but I wasn't prepared for how addictive the full version of the game actually is.

To my credit, I had a little help before starting the game by using a seed which spawned me in the middle of a NPC village, thus giving me shelter and resources to survive my first few treacherous nights. But after a few days had passed and I got used to the controls and crafting, I ventured out and built my own little hut and started digging away.

The first few nights were exceptionally scary, even though I was in a nice safe house. But gradually I learned that Creepers are less creepy to me now than they are simply annoying, and I find myself being more creeped out by those ominous Ender Men.

After digging a very inefficient hole near my house and gather up more resources (cobblestone) than I could handle, I decided to venture out and build a bigger better house on top of a nearby mountain. It took two "days" to finish, and I tricked it out with all sorts of "fancy" things like automatic doors, fences, a  porch, two rooms, paintings, etc.

By this time I was getting frustrated that I didn't have better equipment and materials, so I decided to try and dig a shaft at a 45 degree angle downward through the mountain. I stopped up the entrance with a small shack and door so no enemies could follow me down, took with me a plethora of torches and stone pickaxes and began tunneling. At one point in my digging I had to build a "bridge" across a wide cavernous ravine surrounded by monsters. But once I was on the other side and walls were made up to keep the tunnel isolated and contained, I was safe again.

At the bottom I found a bunch of new materials such as iron, gold, and red stone. I made myself some new armor and equipment, a compass, and a map. Now that I have all that I want to try and venture out and explore the world better and see what else is out there.

And that, my friends, is how I lost 2 days of work time.
