For the past couple of weeks I've been getting a few suggestions that I make some artwork in support of the "Occupy Wall Street movement. I've thus far refrained from doing so because I honestly don't know enough about the movement to definitively put my weight behind it. Unlike supporting the gay rights movement which have clearly defined goals they want to achieve, thus far the OWS doesn't seem to have any clear agenda.

Personally I don't really understand what the OWS stands for other than being angry at excess spending, which I kinda thought was pretty universal to begin with. And while the OWS is becoming a huge thing and spreading all over the country like wildfire... since there's no clear protest, no leaders, not even any clear goals... I don't really understand what they hope to accomplish or how they expect anything to actually get done.

Don't get me wrong. I support the right to protest. Protesting is a peaceful way to demonstrate your beliefs and potentially effect change in the country. Even as much as I dislike the "tea party" group, they have the right to protest just as much as anyone else. It's just that on this one specific occasion, I don't understand what the point of OWS is, nor what they hope to achieve.

Until a more clearly defined politically resolute goal is made apparent, I just can't morally and consciously side one way or the other. So that's kinda my thoughts on the subject.

There's signs ranging from impeach Obama, to Save the Whales. :/ I stopped trying to figure them out. TT^TT They are ruining the reputation of poor V's mask though...

I can't say I really agree with most OSW. they do have a few good points, but a lot things I've heard about I feel iffy about and others I just don't agree with. I'd explain my reasons why, but really I've found discussing politic on the interenet will invevitably end with getting in a fight with someone who disagrees with me, and that's just not worth it.

Very well put. This is also where I stand on the whole thing. As of right now, it seems rather pointless.

Well then. I suggest anyone looking for a clear understanding of the movement, go check out the videos on this journal: [link]

Eye opening and moving.

I can support that, the general geist I get from the OWS is that they are against the excess spending going on in america industry and government, which has gotten out of hand with the whole trillions of dollars debt... but you're right, they don't really to seem to have any real goals beyond that, they have speakers, and people they highlight for getting arrested for protesting peacfully and the whole riot police brutality issue but other than that... there doesnt really seem to be anything defined about it :/

So Kudos for not doing a comic if you don't understand whats going on, more people need to do that.

true. Very True. The branch of Occupy this side of the Atlantic was able close down Saint Pauls Cathedral (which Hitler couldn't do in world war two) and we've still no idea what they want. That, I think, is why they aren't making headway...

What's to understand, really? They're the liberal/progressive ying to the Tea Party's conservative/libertarian yang: Equal and opposite amounts of slogans, shouting, unfocused anger and unclear goals.

Kind of hard not to when neither group will give much more to go on other than "RAHR ANGER!"
