83 (who?)
My last journal seems to have gone over pretty well. So since the Wii is slowly starting to come to a close before Nintendo's next big console release (The Wii U), I thought it would be fun to talk about games which are for the Wii and which might've been overlooked for one reason or another.

It should be noted that not ALL of these are the most AMAZING and BEST GAMES EVER! But I do think that at least 90% of these games should at least be looked at. If you have a Wii and complain that it doesn't have any games that interest you, I strongly recommend you go through this list. If you see a game you haven't heard about or played, rent it and try it out for yourself. There are a lot of gems which didn't get any press or were generally overlooked because of excessive amounts of "shovel-ware" titles clouding up retail stores.

The general perception of the Wii is that there aren't any good games for it. Prove the naysayers wrong and check these titles out. The best part? Most of these titles (especially the WiiWare ones) are cheap, and many of them can be picked up in the bargain bins/used section by this point.

*** Nintendo Titles ***
These are kinda obvious and I shouldn't have to point them out, but hell... why not? They're all awesome and all worth getting.

Kirby's Epic Yarn
Kirby's Return to Dreamland
Donkey Kong Country Returns - HARD AS HELL. Great for "core" and "hardcore" gamers.
Metroid: Other M - ignoring the issues with Samus's personality, the gameplay and graphics are still top-notch and worth playing.
Metroid Prime 3
Mario Galaxy 1,2
New Super Mario Bros Wii
Twilight Princess
Zelda: Skyward Sword - Not out yet but you KNOW it's going to be awesome.
Wario Land: Shake It - Only disadvantage is that it's a little on the easy side and there's no widescreen option for widescreen TV's.
Animal Crossing: City Folk -Only get if you don't already own Animal Crossing on some other platform.
Sin and Punishment 2
Super Smash Bros Brawl
Punch Out
Endless Ocean 1,2 - A relaxing exploration style diving simulator.

*** 3rd Party Retail Wii Games ***

Monster Hunter Tri - Fight monsters, take them down, cut them up, use their body parts as weapons and armor and food. Go online and battle big monsters with friends, hunt down rare monsters in various regions, all while managing your resources in a lush fantasy environment.
Tatsunoko Vs Capcom
Resident Evil 4 - Yeah it's a port, but it's also a port of one of the NGC's greatest video games now with enhanced pointer controls. That's a win-win in my books.
Silent Hill: Shattered Dreams - Looks gorgeous, has a compelling storyline, realistic characters, and your own psych-test results impact the way the game ties to scare you.
Muramasa: The Demon Blade - 2-D sidescrolling Ninja game with beautiful visuals.
Fragile Dreams: Farewell Ruins of the Moon - Probably one of the saddest games I've ever played. It's a game about atmosphere and introspection with some gorgeous visuals and a somber storyline with memorable characters.
Sonic Colors
Epic Mickey - Poor camera controls aside, if you love classic animation and especially Disney, you need to get this game.
No More Heros 1,2 - Not a great game, but you can't deny it isn't unique. Also, the sequel ironed out a lot of the technical issues the first game had. Check it out, if only for the gratuitous insanity and anime pop references.
Mad World - This is a game where hardware limitations is made up by exceptional artistic execution. Kill people in gory and fun bloody ways in a graphic black and white comic book style setting.
Red Steel 2
The Conduit 1,2
De Blob 1,2
Flip's Twisted World - Think Super Mario Galaxy but where you can control when the gravity shifts.
Harvest Moon/Rune Factory games
Trauma Center
Call of Duty: Black Ops
Bully: Scholarship Edition
Rabbids Go Home
Lost in Shadow - This is a gorgeous side scrolling game with a unique twist in that all the platforms are shadows cast by the environment. Like "Fragile Dreams" it is kinda somber and depressing, so long periods of playing is not a good idea. lol.
Deadspace: Extraction
Deadly Creatures
TMNT: Smash Up - It's Smash Bros Brawl... with the Ninja Turtles.
Cursed Mountain

*** WiiWare Games ***

Jett Rocket - There aren't a lot of good 3-D platform games on the Wii, so would you believe me if I told you there was a great one on WIIWARE? This game looks just as good as many retail games out there, it's got a nice length to it, re-playability, and even vehicles to ride in certain levels!
FAST Racing League - What do you get when you combine Ikaruga with F-Zero? You get FAST Racing League. It may not have online multiplayer, but the color flipping gameplay makes this racing game have a lot more strategy than you might expect.
Water Warfare - A FPS game with a unique twist: You use water guns. Graphics are pretty generic, but aside from that the game is a blast and it still has a good online campaign going strong.
Contra: Rebirth
Mega Man 9, 10
Phoenix Wright 1,2,3 - Yeah they're ports of the GBA games, but they're still awesome in their own right. If you haven't played Phoenix Wright before, these are a must-have download.
World of Goo
Cave Story
Dive - This is a nice relaxing game. It's very much akin to Endless Ocean but in a sidescrolling format.
Zombie Panic - Anime characters blasting away waves zombies and ninja's in destructible environments while japanese music plays in the background? Hell, YES.
Bit.Trip. Series - Out of all the series I think Beat and Runner are the best they have to offer. Retro style rhythm based gameplay at it's best.
Bubble Bobble Plus
Defend Your Castle
Dr. Mario RX
Gradius Rebirth
Lost Winds 1,2
Nyx Quest - A gorgeous sidescrolling game with a female protagonist set in the ruins of ancient greece.
Rise of the Gladiator
Sonic 4 - Plays best if you have a widescreen TV.
Swords and Soldiers
Tetris Party
Wario Ware DIY - Only get if you have the DS companion game.
Tomena Sanner
You, Me, and the Cubes
Muscle March - The MANLIEST game ever made. EVER.

*** Odds and Ends ***

Another Code R - For those of you living outside the US, you probably can pick up this title and I strongly recommend you do. It's a sequel to the cult DS title Trace Memory (or Another Code as it's sometimes called). It was never released here in the states but I understand that for most other countries it was.

Fatal Frame 4- This is another game which didn't come out for the states. But you're in luck. There's a fan patch/translation for the game. Buy a legitimate japanese copy of the game, plug this patch into the USB port of your Wii, and ta-da! You can now play this japanese locked game translated into english on your american Wii. Best part? It's free and it doesn't require the use of hacking or mods.

If you know of any games you enjoyed for the Wii that I might've missed, please feel free to list them here too. These titles are just games that I personally know about or already own, and I freely admit that my tastes are not the same as everyone else's.

And of course none of the titles on this list include the HUGE library of classic games available on the Virtual Console. Seriously, even if you're waiting between the big ticket games, there's enough to download on WiiWare and the VC combined at this point to keep you occupied for MONTHS.

Also, Christmas is right around the corner. I know most of us will be picking up the big-ticket titles like Skyward Sword, Mario Kart 7, Mario 3DS etc... but if you have a few extra bucks you want to spend, or need something for a stocking stuffer... try some of these out. I think you'll be pleasantly surprised!

If you have any questions about a game I listed but didn't talk about, feel free to ask me and I'll try to go into more detail about what it is.

"Water Warfare" is a nice idea for a game. However, I would make it better by making the graphics more realistic, and allowing you to squirt each other with colored liquids rather than just using clear water.

Don't forget all of the VC games.

I think the list is missing Tales of Symphony (the Wii version one... the GameCube one is good, too) :V and I've not seen much of it but Xenoblade Chronicles seems like a very good RPG, too with too many hours of gameplay and a cool story o3o

What about Okami? I have it for PS2, and it is AMAZING. I know it was released for Wii, but didn't get a whole lot of publicity, which is a shame.

Donkey Kong Country Returns very quickly became one of my all-time favourite games, probably at least in my top ten in total, and in my top three for the Wii in particular :D I never got to play the classic version (I probably should though) but the new one on the Wii made me feel like I've had it for a lifetime already since it had such a traditional gaming feel. And yes - it is very hard to do all the extra missions, and time attack mode too if you're like me and won't accept anything other than a gold medal on all levels (But I did it! :trophy:)

I really enjoyed the Super Mario Galaxy games, it was the closest experience I've had to a new installment of Super Mario 64 with the added bonus and beauty of mini-planets you could walk all the way around which made it a really unique game. New Super Mario Bros Wii was enjoyable too - and I played both that and Donkey Kong Country Returns in 2 player mode with my brother and we were both cluelessly killing ourselves trying to find secrets or making "plans" on how to get somewhere that always failed. We got a good laugh out of both

Super Smash Bros Brawl is probably my favourite of them all. Ever since Melee I have loved the Smash Bros games even though many complain about Nintendo using it as a what? technically they have been doing it with Mario for over 20 years, but just like with Mario - the resulting games are fun as Hell so I don't care if they were created with money-raking intentions :XD: Smash Bros brawl kept us entertained for hours and was full of lots of challenges and laughs :D
