Remember a while back I said there was something I was gonna announce about SYAC? Well here we go! I'm coming back to do more SYAC's soon. All of it too, the NSYAC and the old SYAC stuff.

We're working right now on categorizing everything in the archives, so you can browse just the stuff you want to look at and not have it be this clusterf**k of everything hodgepodged together. We should have something ready for viewing within the next few days.

What I am going to do differently this time around is not conform to a set release schedule. I'm gonna make the comics as I feel like it and as the jokes come to me. Hopefully, without the pressure of a constant release schedule I can work more on refining the artwork and making sure nothing is rushed out.

Having said that... please keep in mind this is still a series of silly low-brow cartoon strips so... don't be expecting DaVinci level art here or anything. SYAC has never been a series where the art was meant to look like a DC comic book, and I have no interest in going in that artistic direction for it. But I will be spending more than just a few hours on each strip and at least trying to not have as many anatomical mistakes as previous ones. And maybe every now and then I'll experiment with the style in the comics based around my cartoon incarnation, while keeping and refining the style of the NSYAC series as it progresses.

We are also working on a fan-art page too. I don't know when that will be completed, it might take a lot longer than everything else. But eventually fans will be able to upload their own art and comics and have their own section of the website. Uploads will be moderated (of course) and have to be approved before they're visible and in the archives but... yeah, that's maybe a thing that will happen.... sometime... eventually...

How's that sound for everyone? Is that an agreeable solution? I don't know when the first set of new strips will be going up, but I will keep you all informed. And yes, we will finally find out what happened to poor Emily, as well as continue to follow cartoon me.

For NSYAC I'd really like to see you make model sheets and set rules for yourself, like I once suggested before. Not only would I love to see it, it will be much more easy and much more fun to make poses for your characters. (Also, for fanartists it will be more practical)

I actually do have model sheets of all the characters... I just don't know why it would be necessary to show them to the public...

It's not necessary, I just like to see that sort of thing. Concept art and the like. If you feel uncomfortable with publishing that, then you really shouldn't though.

Hey glad to hear, your SYAC comics always give me a good laugh on days I feel a bit down or for just the heck of it, but thats the power of cartoons anyways.

You know, if you plan on doing more story arcs, you could do what Freak Angels used to do and update them in one lot so you don't have to worry about commenters poking at things that are explained later on.

Yay, more SYAC/NSYAC! I don't mind the cartoony style; it makes the jokes funnier!

Glad to hear you found a solution that works for you. =D

I, personally, am thrilled! I was bummed (but totally understood) when you left original SYAC (what made me start watching you in the first place) and again when you couldn't continue with the new version. I think the non-structured release is perfectly fine, as random is better than none! Like you said, don't rush it or force it!!!

Honestly, people bitching about your art is stupid. You have a particular style. I watch several artists. You draw nothing like Viria draws nothing like Ursula draws nothing like Jenny draws nothing like Humon. I like your comics BECAUSE of how they are different (and often hella clever). If everything looked like Da Vinci, it would get real boring real fast. Some people just can't move their little cursor to the watch button and LEAVE if they don't like what they see and have to get their rocks off by bitching. Those people are sad, sorry little creatures. Ignore the haters, Andrew.

You don't seem to understand that one can have a critical eye over art without hating the author.

Also, there is a difference between stylistic choices and plain mistakes. When colors change, proportions suddenly vary, lightning gets inconsistent, or elements appear/disappear for no reason, then it isn't anymore a question of style, but one of consistency and technique.

Finally, a critic could simply shut off and leave... But what if he entertains parts of the work and would like to see it become better? Again, just because one points at mistakes in art doesn't mean hate - it may also mean genuine interest.

An artist doesn't need to be the next Da Vinci, indeed. But (s)he shouldn't use that critera to justify laziness, either.

I know there is a difference between a critical eye and hating the author. I was referring to the people who make accounts specifically to terrorize Andrew. I have seen people with empty accounts comment over and over with not critical or constructive, but cruel and mean-spirited things. Even if his art was terrible, there is *no* reason for bs like that. I have a six year old with better manners than some of the people commenting.

You, actually, have remarks with thought behind them, and I have no problem with that. What people enjoy is subjective. The mistakes may bother some people and they can give him criticism and he can grow, and I can enjoy something that brings a smile to my face and that is all that matters to me. While I don't give critiques to art, as it is not something I am particularly critical about, I think it is healthy and contribute in other mediums.

I guess I should have made myself clearer that I wasn't discouraging honest and helpful criticism. It seems to be quite the sore subject to some of his fans. I was speaking about the hate and bullying that I have seen first hand.

Maybe it's time for you to actually look at the other side of the argument instead of having a twisted and uninformed vision of the anti-fanbase. There are plenty of legitimate reasons to dislike Dobson, to be honest.

Oh my god, did you really go back to this old post and look at the original to see if someone else said something to me and, if they did, did I talk to them since I wasn't talking to you? Maybe you should get a hobby...

"old post"

I'd have understood if this was posted 1 month ago or more, but yours is hardly "old" by any standards.

Also welcome to the basics rules of the public website, anyone can see and comment on your posts. You should deal with it, plebian.

First, thank you for you answer. My own comment partly aimed at making the gap between trolling, pure hate and genuine criticism clearer. Your explanation of your earlier comments made your meaning much clearer on this, and I find that very important.

Second, I've not seen people "terrorizing" Andrew Dobson here recently, at least since I've started following those journals. I've seen people with rude manners, or with a sharp tongue. But I have seen that both from critics, fans, and even sometimes by the artist himself, with an equal lack of maturity. I've written it in another comment before: more openness is needed from all sides to get a better dialog centered on the art and not on the people.

I don't know if my remarks have thoughts behind them... I just think it is not sufficient to say: "I love that" or "that sucks". It doesn't matter, as tastes are subjective. What really matters is explaining my perception, so the artist can compare it with his, and take the best out of it. Or, in other words, I don't think it is important the artist agrees with me, but it is important that he can understand my view, and see it as equally valid as his.

Again, thanks for you polite answer (plus you had the courage to read my overly long replies... XD)!

You should apply that advice to yourself first before. That and learning the definition of "trolling" (which you actually did in your first ost, second paragraph that I pointed out) and hypocrisy (you would never use that account argument if I did side with you, and showing my work wouldn't change anything for a plebian)
