130 (who?)
In case you live outside the USA and haven't heard of this yet, Texas was preparing to vote on a radical bill that would effectively outlaw abortions within their boarders. Senator Wendy Davis came in early in the morning with the expressed intent of filibustering: The goal being to delay the critical vote.

Wendy Davis talked for 11 hours straight. No food. No drinks. No bathroom breaks. She couldn't even pause for a moment to take a sip of water or else she'd give up the floor and the vote could get underway. 11 hours straight she talked and just before the midnight cutoff she was interrupted, and the vote began... only to become absolute pandemonium as the crowd watching protested the interruption.

The GOP insists that the vote carried and passed, while the Democrats insist that they were still taking votes after the midnight cutoff thanks to the chaos that ensued. This is going to be one of those instances where the GOP are gonna try to lie and shove their way through our diplomatic process to achieve their goals rather than playing fairly like Senator Wendy Davis did.

I'm not gonna get into the topic of abortions because as I've said in the past, I don't know how I feel about them. It's not a black and white issue and the fact people keep trying to turn it into one disgusts me. But one thing I am certain about: I would rather there be a clean, safe, environment with professionally trained doctors to make sure the procedure doesn't cause more harm to the patient than it already is. Taking away abortion clinics will only force women to seek out unsafe procedures and measures and INCREASE the fatality rate. No matter what your feelings about abortions are, people are gonna get them. You can't stop that from happening. Taking away the clinics doesn't prevent it from happening, it just makes the whole thing worse for everyone.

So mad props to Wendy Davis. What she did couldn't have been easy to do and she accomplished a lot. Now we just need to keep a clear head and not let the GOP lie their way through this like they did with George Bush's election. Fuck you, Fox News, Al Gore won.

Someone threw a firebomb into Wendy Davis's office only a few hours ago. She was not in at the time, and the fire was quickly put out by the staff on hand, but there has been damage to her office nevertheless. SORRY, THIS WAS A STORY THAT HAPPENED A YEAR AGO NOT LAST NIGHT

The bill is dead! Despite their best efforts to try and blindside us all, with thousands of people watching it unfold and tweeting like crazy, they couldn't bluster it any more. The bill is DEAD! I never thought I'd say this but, thank goodness for social media awareness. If it's ever been used for good, this is one of those times!

it should be up to the parents decision, or more the woman's choice, its their body.
Wendy Davis deserves a medal

Texas legislature passes the bill, running roughshod over the right to choose.

I don't know if I can really agree with Filibusting if I am understanding it correctly. If you are worried people might not vote for what you want you just delay the vote until the time is over? That seems childish and defeats the purpose of democracy.
Of course once babies start to be made independently of a women then their argument that it's only their bodies that they are messing with isn't going to be enough of an excuse. Unless they go down the route of saying it's their genes, then really all offspring are at the mercy of their parents...
:salute: 11 hour fili? That woman deserves a medal.

I just love that when she got fouled for no valid reason whatsoever, the commonwealth in the room flipped their shit. (pardon my language) XD

As a pro-choice person I am happy this bill is gone for now.
You should try getting your facts straight. Yes, the bill is dead, for now. But it would not totally outlaw abortion. It would make it illegal to have an abortion after 20 weeks. There's a big difference.
That's not the only difference. It would also raise the standards of abortion clinics so high that the majority of them wouldn't be able to meet them and thus would have to close. Not only that, but the forced closure of any clinic would put a strain on the other until they either weren't able to do their function properly, or would be forced to close as well. There are a lot of major reasons why this bill is bad, that wasn't the only one.

Also, I'm not a news reporter. I just post on what I've heard. You want your facts straight get them from someone who's a professional journalist.
