Sorry 'bout the last journal, that was a bit emo wasn't it? lol

Anyway, "I've come to the conclusion that one useless man is called a disgrace. That TWO a lawfirm. And that three or more become a CONGRESS! And by god I have had this congress! For 10 years King George and his-" oh... wait... hang on...

backing up...

I meant to say I've come to the obvious conclusion that there's far too much hate on the internet. And while I might speak my mind about issues I feel are important, I myself have a tendency to focus a bit too much on the negativity side of things and not appreciate all the wonderful wonderful people there are around me.

So for this next week or so, I wanna try something different. I'm gonna try to make comics about being positive and happy about who you are, both as an artist and a person. I'm gonna start reblogging onto tumblr stuff I like from my favs or from fans too. And I'm going to try to say thank you to my fans ore often.

I'm calling this lil' experiment "project positivity." Let's see if we can make a difference by being nicer to people and resist the temptation that makes us say mean things to others.

Keys for being positive?
- Less whining about your life and comic
- Ranting is ok, but not whining. Try not to sound like a deranged person neither.
- Go out more often, try hang out with people. The social bonding help alot in contributing postive thinking. Plus good inspiration and catching up with up to date social stuff (sometimes).
- If you can't bond with people often, take a walk. Anything can be inspirational.
- Critiques got you burned up? Don't reply at all when your temperature is high. Get a drink, sit, cool off. Read the critique again to find the point.
- Don't hide or banned critiques who have better argument than you. They might prove usefull to motivate yourself.

The hardest part to master of trying to be positive is....
"Try to be friends with people whom you knew in your life and being more succesfull than you."
I honestly have a friend who is more successfull than me, he has his own creative company right now. Been called to work from New York to Tokyo bunch of times when he was a freelancer. And I'm jealous of his accomplishment. I've been in the dump because of this...

... but I managed to crawl back. Because of my girlfriend simple advice, "Stop being jealous, and make your own achievement!! Be better than you are now, when you get better, get better again!! Never ever stop... because your friend won't stop either"

I won't be reaching my friend's current status or probably even in the future. But that teach me that there is a positive thing trying to best yourself, and who knows I'll catch up with him eventually.

"Reading: tumblr"

Hmmm...I think I might have an idea of where some of the negativity is coming from. ;P

"Watching: Futurama
Playing: Super Mario Bros 3D Land"

Ah, but I'd say you've got a lot of good positivity intake coming in to counteract it! ;D

Oh please, I'd say ignore the good comics because theyre just a bunch of kids who foolishly like your shit. Look at the bad ones and use them to get fucking better. Or you could just go to a good school for animation like MCAD. Oh wait, you already did. welp, you can always just quit.

My dad will rip out your mortal heart out and stomp on it with a pair of golf shoes he just bought just for that purpose alone. He is the most negative person I've ever known, and he's so damned prideful of it.

Of course, that's his schizoid personality disorder that's causing it :X You, on the other hand, are quite empathetic and emotional ...to a fault. If you don't pay attention to the people and things around you, close to you, you essentially limit yourself.

So good on ya reaching out in a positive manner :salute:

*more? That's a great ideal about being nice and positive... but that last line sounded like Disney. ^^; Anyway, I don't wanna be a bit arrogant, but I've been suggesting ignoring the negativity and hate for a while now. Glad you're finally going that route even if you didn't see what I wrote about it. :D

Its not just the internet, but society in general. Were in an age of cynicism and negativity. You have to be a cynical asshole to be cool. Im sure that your "positive mood" comics will attract their fair share of haters too, precisely for being optimistic.

Just do what you want as an artist *thumbs up*

Sometimes you want to think about things or get them off your chest I know, but everyone venting can get a bit exhausting. I personally will always respect a well-rounded and fair view of both negatives and positives; but I like positives more. Positivity engenders positivity after all, and I'll be looking forward to these. :)
(I don't even let myself write comments when I'm in too crappy of a mood : P)

Also: it might be worth it to look through constructive criticism properly and actually realising the basis for the criticism. ;) People give constructive criticism only if they're being fair.

Much better! This is preferable to going emo. =D

One thing. When people seemingly unfairly criticise you, it's being fair to yourself to take their comments with a pinch - err, a handful is better - of salt, and to see exactly -why- they're being 'mean'. They might not be mean intentionally, even. =)

And about the hate thing... There's little to none true hate on the internet. People just tend to be more melodramatic because no one really knows or sees their real self. As for the people who are really hateful, we'll do the salt tactic with them, won't we? ;)

My friends and many other people have been struggling from what people have been saying to them. Namely bullying and such, but they are suffering from negative comments. I agree with you, the internet is filled with hate. It is nice to see some people here can still bring some positive things.

To be honest, I think there are two sides to every situation.

For some reason, tumblr sees you as some evil guy. I don't, and i think tumblr is overdoing it. But as we all know this happens on tumblr waayyy too often. I saw this one post where this guy had claimed that he was better off than you and you responded. I think maybe he shouldn't have gone off on such a huge tangent, but essentially he had a good point.
You are a good guy, you use a ton of puns and references in your comics. That's cool, but I want to just wanted to mention that taking advice from your older fanbase (where as deviantArt consists of mostly 13 year old girls obsessed with anime, and will worship you and your popularity) would be a pretty good idea and you'd have a better reputation.
If I had so many people reading my comics, I'd try to improve and impress other types of people.

Thank you for reading this, that is, if you saw it.

So would this "project positivity" also include not calling people who give legitimate criticism trolls and haters? That is where a good portion of peoples' annoyance with you stems from.

Unfortunately I don't believe you (not you personally man, just, people in general) do not make a difference. You treat someone nicely, and then, your best friend backstabbs you for no reason, just for their own enjoyment and you find out that you mean nothing to them.

"For God's sake, John! Sit down!" Words cannot express quite how much I love 1776. You, sir, have made my week, month, and possibly year. Finally! Someone who has seen it! :)

I also love your idea. It seems it is a lot easier to be rude to others on the internet because you are not face-to-face with whom you are talking. Taking an extra step to show kindness and positivity will show dedication and true kindness in the end, and I think will be very rewarding! Good luck, my friend!
