Um... my government kinda stopped working today. I'm gonna summarize these events rather generally, so if you don't like what I say here, tough luck go fight about it in the comment section. I'm writing this not because I want to talk about politics, but because I'm sorta obligated to since it's a BIG DEAL here and people are confused and wondering what's going on.
So we have a budget that needs to get passed every year to keep things running. The president gives the budget to Congress and Congress approves of it. Except that Congress is so inefficient at getting things done, they often wait too long to pass the budget by the deadline. So generally what happens is they pass an extension to take care of it later, which shouldn't be a big deal. But this year Republicans added an addendum to the extension saying they wanted to bump Obamacare till next year, and squabbling ensued.
Now Obamacare has already passed into Law. It's even been upheld by the Supreme Court. There is nothing Republicans can do to shut it down at this point, so it's weird that they put that addendum on in the first place. Basically what it boils down to is a smoke screen to continually try to make Obama look like a failure, because even though Republicans are the root cause of this issue in the broad strokes it looks like Obama is the one unable to resolve the issue and thus takes blame for the government shutting down.
And this primarily is why I'm so sick of politics in my country. Both sides are so fucking extremist at this point that there's NO middle ground. Obama has tried time and again to extend a hand to Republicans and they have continually rejected it. He's compromised with them so often that even Obamacare (one of the most revolutionary laws passed in recent years) ends up being broken. The Republicans are SO steadfast and determined to not give an inch on anything, that even compromises with them end up crippling laws and bills designed to protect us. So yeah, I blame Republicans for having this alliterative motive of trying to blame Obama for everything, and I blame Democrats for being gullible enough to try and compromise and agree with Republicans in the interest of trying to keep an open dialogue when none exists.
Again, this is an extreme generalization of the events. I'm sure people in the comments with either disagree with my summary or go into breathless detail for anyone who wants to know more about it. Frankly I don't honestly care. I wanna hit both sides in the face with a shovel for being so blindly STUPID about this whole thing.
As John Adams once said "I have come to the conclusion, that one useless man is called a disgrace. That two are a lawfirm. And that three or more become a Congress. And by god I have had this Congress..."
