Trying New Things
So some of you might’ve seen that I attempted to do a “preview” of a comic on DA with a link to the full comic on my website. It was clearly a first attempt and the information I’ve gathered from it is still... inconclusive. According to statistics, the number of views didn’t really change at all compared to other posts where I didn’t have a link, but on the other hand I got more people communicating with me on my SYAC page for a change. There was also some confusion about if it was a preview or not, and that’s my bad for making such a terrible preview image. I’ll do better next time, I promise.

The whole point of this all is to try and generate more advert revenue on my various websites without bombarding y’all with pointless stuff or looking like i’m “whoring” my work. That’s one of the few things I kinda dislike about social network marketing... it can very easily turn into spam and I don’t want to do that.

Thanks for being patient with me while I try out this new process.

Guardians of the Galaxy Trailer

This movie is either going to be really really good and awesome... or it’s going to suck. It’s very hard to tell at the moment. On the one hand it’s pretty clear that the budget has gone into world building and creating the fantastical creatures, but on the other hand the humor seen in the trailer could easily be extreeeeeeeemly corny in the final film.

There’s also the question on weather or not the average movie-goer will be able to wrap their heads around this film. Sure, you and I could enjoy it... but the real buck comes from people who make movies like “Grown Ups 2” a financial success. It’s quite a juggling act and I gotta hand it to Marvel for putting so much faith in their series to trust audiences with this much... zaniness.

Don’t get me wrong. I WANT more movies like this. I want big budget films that go nuts with unique characters, races, technology, worlds, universes, action, adventure, etc. That’s something that’s been sorely missing from most modern films, and it was something that use to be more popular in the past. So I am thrilled that films like this (and Pacific Rim and Elysium and The Avengers) are getting made and becoming popular. I just don’t want the general public to turn against such creativity thus potentially hindering future films.

I still remember when critics of the first Mission Impossible movie and The Matrix thought the films were “too confusing.” Sigh...

The fact that they're going all in with this movie makes me happy, and at the same time it makes me mad at 2edgy4me DC. Why you may ask?

"Making a WonderWoman movie would be too hard to put on the screen." - DC

"So Rocket Racoon is a thing." - Marvel

Why isn't Black Panther getting any love? He's awesome and he hasn't even been in a movie, much less gotten his own.

It's amazing to see Marvel is willing to give this movie a chance. While WB is having problems making Wonder Woman for the same reasons that it may be too confusing for the general public. Marvel's response is to give a raccoon a rocket launcher and go with it.

This movie is going to be awesome.

Tom,

I have SYAC bookmarked and I check it every other day along with my other favorite comics.  I still think the preview link is a good idea.  While I do check your site often, I pop on DA every day.  If I hadn't seen the preview on here, it might have been another day before I popped onto SYAC.

Also, that dang trailer does not have nearly enough Rocket Raccoon.

While I believe it could be a good movie, I just don't now how I feel it being the Avengers Universe. If it was it's stand alone thing, then great b ut it just doesn't have that feel like it belongs with the others. I guess only time will tell.

Personally: I understood what The Matrix was about. (still working on the first Mission Impossible movie though)

I´m slightly optimistic about the GotG movie.

Haven´t heard about GotG before this film was announced so I get to go watch it with a fresh, open mindset. :)

Meanwhile, no update for Big Hero 6, which is suppose to come out in November. Sigh...but anyway, I hope Guardians works out. I'd love to see more obscure comic books be adapted for the big screen. Especially seeing how good this movie looks; even if the humor's weird, I'd still go just to look at it!

I got that, I was just wondering if anyone knew what comic it was based on. They've been doing pretty well drawing in people who don't know the source material in their other movies lately, so this one should be fine. I was just curious.

I dunno, maybe you can create spiffy stamps and place them permanently in your journal (so that way they will always be there every time you put out new journal) - and each stamp would have the word or icon such as SYAC, ALEX ZE PIRATE and ANDY'S ARTWORKS and even your own books or simply STORE with the links to respective websites.  That way, we will see them and click on each stamp to go to the website(s).

Hope that helps.

I honestly was hoping for more corny/zany with this one, and it at least looks like I get my wish.  The next Cap movie looks more hardcore serious, which fits that character.

I'm looking forward to both because I enjoy both. ;)

Why not make a new journal about the comics on your site then add them to DA whenever much later, then again its not easy to do a data dump on DA...mmmmmmmm *runs out of brain power*

Of the new marvel stuff none suck that badly, even amazing spider man was not THAT bad but still a bit off the mark IMO. GOTG looks good so far.

It seems that all you need to please a comic book geek is to throw silly jokes and one liners in their movies and call it a day!

I'm starting to dislike this ''everyone make silly and corny jokes!'' route that Marvel is trying.

Like all they think is about making a quick buck and they don't stop to think about the long game, about how people will look back at Thor 2 and GotG and say '' woah, that movie is so dated!! The comedy doesn't hold up and that was all that it had going for!''

Say what you will about the Nolan Batman movies and Man of Steel, but those movies hold up and I really think that Man of Steel will be a better movie with the sequel.

That and X-men looks promising from the trailer.

I just hope that Captain America turns to be GOOD and not SO SILLY IS GOOD!!

When Fox stops making money on their X-Men franchise then maybe Marvel will get the rights to them again. Who knows, if DOFP is an enormous failure (and I'm betting that it won't be) then maybe they'll stop and we can get our Deadpool movie in the next 20 to 30 years. Until then though, I'm going to avoid saying "I wish Marvel would make a Deadpool movie" and focus more on all of the super awesome characters like they DO have the rights to. You know, like Luke Cage, Daredevil, Hulk (who needs a new movie and now), Dr. Strange, the West Coast Avengers... I could go on and on but I think that I've made my point.

On a side note though, I will be one of those people who says "wtf DC!?! Marvel can make a movie about a freaking machine-gun wielding raccoon and a [maybe] talking tree but you can't give us a good Green Lantern or, God forbid it, even a freaking Wonder Woman movie?!?"

Okay, you have a point there. After all, IF a Deadpool Movie ever comes out, we want it to be Deadpool at his finest and not this strange version, that was in the Wolverine-movie.

I kinda enjoyed Green Lantern, although it was somewhat more like a comedy. It wasn't that bad, but it wasn't great either.
It's not only Wonder Woman who should finally get a movie. I want a Flash-movie. What about him?

Flash at least is getting some attention on TV with his cameos in Arrow (a pretty awesome show if you ask me) and potentially his own spin-off if things go well. I'm not a huge Flash fan but at least they're entertaining the idea. Which brings me to another gripe: DC has the ability to put out awesome TV shows through WB. Smallville was very overrated to me but apparently it was still popular with a lot of people. Arrow is currently one of my favorite shows to watch. There's a potential Flash show. There is also a show about Jim Gordon pre-Batman (but that one is Fox). Yet the best Marvel can do is Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.

With all of the cool street level heroes that Disney/Marvel Studios has the rights to, why can't we get a Heroes for Hire with Luke Cage and Misty Knight? Why not a gritty detective/law show featuring Daredevil? Or if there isn't going to be a Hulk movie for the foreseeable future, why not a TV show at least? *FANBOYRAGE*

I don't like Arrow very much. It deviates too much from the Origins of the Comics.
I loved Smallville (still do), because it was one of the first series like that.
I'm curious about Gotham. It could be good, but it could end up just like Birds of Prey.

I guess the studios have their own ideas of what we want, without asking us, the fans, what we really want. No matter if it's DC or Marvel.

Jesus, if you dislike it for deviating from the source material then there mustn't be a single comic book movie/show that you do like. I enjoyed Tim Burton's Batman and Batman Returns even though they weren't anything like the comic in most aspects. I loved Nolan's Dark Knight Trilogy because he had the feel of Batman even if he didn't follow the comics word-for-word. Man of Steel, X-Men First Class, Amazing Spider-Man were all cool movies... all of them nothing like the origins from the comics. It simply is not reasonable to expect a movie or show to follow comic books word for word. If they did we would have a 9 hour movie called "Secret Wars." While that would be fucking awesome for me or you to watch, how many average people would pay to see that?

Sure, Ollie Queen from DC and Ollie Queen from Arrow are two different guys with two different origins. However we're still getting some good fanboy fun on TV. It's the equivalent of saying that you don't like Ultimate Marvel or Earth-One because it's different from the original.

I've got no problem, if there is just a minor detail different, but something that much is disturbing for me. For ME. If everyone else doesn't care, be my guest.
